iTouch Design Impediments
One of my co-workers was using my iPod Touch to play around with a drump pad application that I showed him.
He was making some interesting beats, but had difficulty creating some complex patterns due to the rounded back panel of the iTouch. The device kept lifting off the table surface on which it was set on. It also kept on sliding around the table.
Solution 1: I placed a mousepad upside down (tacky side up) and that improved the problem.
Solution 2: I gripped the device and held it firmly to the desk while he went to work on the drum pads. This seemed to work best, but I wasn’t able to add my drum sounds to the experience.
Miscellaneous Thoughts:
-When designing drum pads, place the pads closer to the screen center (this, of course, compromises how many drum pads can be placed.
-Place the device on a tacky surface if using both hands to “play the screen”
-Use a rubber iPod Touch case that has a flat back
